March 21, 2014 Dear Parents, We earned Nachos! Students who earned a 27, 28, 29, or a 30, out of 30 possible points, on their Utah Write essay last term, get to choose a topping for the corn chips. Any donations of cheese, bean dip, salsa, or other appropriate topping is appreciated. We will be enjoying this reward Tuesday after our SAGE Writing test. Students have an opportunity to earn ice cream with toppings by getting scores in the same range on the “Save the Ice” essay on Utah Write. I am confident they will earn this reward also, so if you would like to donate ice cream or toppings I will let you know when we have earned it. Our SAGE writing test is 10:30 Monday and Tuesday mornings. We have awesome writers in our class. I am confident students can write well no matter what prompt they give us. Please encourage them to get a good nights sleep, eat well, elaborate, and do their best. :) Some writing tips to remind them about: Restate the question at the beginning of the essay Hook the reader with something interesting them to read OREO O: state your opinion R: give a reason E: support your reason with at least one E Explain Example Expert Evidence ELABORATE O: we Ought to ….. this is your CALL to ACTION A strong conclusion can include restating your opinion and your call to action Thanks for having great kids in my class! Discovery Gateway assembly is April 7 “Reaction Time” and will be here at the school. It will be an interactive fun experience for all students who are present.
